WILD KINDNESS

5Rhythms 5-Day Heartbeat Retreat at Stowel Lake Farm

A multi day + night dance | embodiment immersion exploring the 5Rhythms emotional map

with Anne Marie Hogya + Joanne Winstanley

April 16 to April 21, 2025 (Wed. to Mon.)

Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, Canada

When we take time to tend to our emotions – to turn towards our heart and allow what’s there to move – we can begin to befriend and tune into the vibrant, fluid landscape of our heart.

In the Heartbeat™ map, each of the 5Rhythms® becomes a gateway to engage with our essential emotions: Flowing / Fear, Staccato / Anger, Chaos / Sadness, Lyrical / Joy, and Stillness / Compassion.

Grounded in our physical 5Rhythms practice, bolstered by the presence of kindred community – and honouring our individual capacities – we will practice inviting, exploring, and embodying a range of emotional expressions so that we may come to know them well, and be informed by the intelligence they bring.

Beyond fixed positions of ‘nice’ or ‘polite’ or ‘fine’ we may connect with a truer, wilder current that moves with a natural generosity towards ourselves and others.

We will cultivate Wild Kindness.

Join us for a long weekend retreat, where we’ll step away from the world to the spectacular Stowel Lake Farm located on Salt Spring Island, BC, on the West Coast of Canada. Here, we’ll steep in nature, nourish our bodies with farm-fresh food, and move together in sun-soaked spaces. Experience nature, growth, and community in an unforgettable setting.

About 5Rhythms and Joanne + Anne Marie

Image of Joanne Winstanley and Anne Marie Hogya, side by side.

*Joanne Winstanley and Anne Marie Hogya met in 1999 at a 5Rhythms workshop on Cortez Island and became fast friends. A year later in 2000 they road tripped together to Marin, California to do a month-long immersion with 5Rhythms founder, Gabrielle Roth and studied and trained with Gabrielle and faculty over the next two decades. Both Anne Marie and Joanne are accredited to teach both the physical (Waves) and emotional (Heartbeat) maps of the 5Rhythms.

*About the 5Rhythms™: The 5Rhythms is a dynamic movement practice—a body-based awareness practice—that ignites creativity, connection and community. The 5 Rhythms–Flowing Staccato Chaos Lyrical Stillness®–are states of Being and exploring them can lead us back to our real, vulnerable, wild, passionate and instinctive self. The 5Rhythms practice was created and developed by artist, theatre director and author Gabrielle Roth.

*This retreat counts 5 days of Heartbeat pre-requisites on the 5Rhythms Teacher Training path.
